Are Joe and Bernie speaking out against fucking hoarders?

These Pendejos are causing real difficulties for seniors, homeless, poor, those with only public transportation access, students, disabled...etc. etc. People who can only purchase and or carry limited amounts of goods on a regular basis.

Maybe I missed it; If I did sorry about the mini rant.

Both these guys need to come out hard, strong, and large against fucking hoarding.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/specific-groups/high-risk-complications.html]

If you are at higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19, you should:

Stock up on supplies.
Take everyday precautions to keep space between yourself and others.
When you go out in public, keep away from others who are sick, limit close contact and wash your hands often.
Avoid crowds as much as possible.
Avoid cruise travel and non-essential air travel.
During a COVID-19 outbreak in your community, stay home as much as possible to further reduce your risk of being exposed.

The non higher risk people may have gone along because perhaps they are afraid that when the high-risk people are done there will be nothing left.

Millions of people need to stay out of stores for months. What would you have them do?
Starve in their homes. Many of these same people live in rural areas without delivery service.

Others will suddenly be held in isolation and quarantine without warning.

The supply chains will replenish the stores within a week and those who avoid contact over
the next months are doing our society a service to @Flatten the curve.

I suggest you redirect your intense anger at those who placed us in this crisis and not
those who are attempting to cope with it the best way they can.

You might want to use your considerable energies to go out and serve your community in this time of need

Everybody has to draw their own line and stay on one side or cross it if they so choose.

Saw one funny comment the other day on a financial website...in response to one person complaining that he couldn't find enough TP another poster said you won't need that much toilet paper when the food supply stops. A case of canned beans and a year's worth of toilet paper doesn't seem to be a very good balance to me.

Sat Mar 14, 2020, 04:27 PM

. Many, many, many millions of people are, people who are supposed to be laying in extra supplies in case they must shelter at home. They're doing what is right and necessary, as experts in handling epidemics are advising them to.

Imo, this epidemic and the special problems of some groups do not justify acting out and calling people fuckers and pendejos. You should be happy to realize that most of those shopping are laying in supplies not just to care for one person, but for their families, which typically include members who cannot care for themselves. In addition, many are also running errands for others, such as "senior" relatives or friends, "disabled" relatives or friends, neighbors who no longer drive, etc. etc.

And you should already know that "just in time" merchandising means that stores have moved to only purchasing enough to meet demand for a couple days. When demand goes up unexpectedly, as it has now, THAT will cause empty spots on the shelvs until new supplies arrive.

like we always do. Teachers get paid once a month so we always shop for a month.

However, we bought a few additional items.

Dried Milk
Rice
Beans
Soup
hash
chili

we did not hoard but did buy a little extra.

We had to go to 4 stores to buy 16 rolls of TP. As a Crohn's girl, I can not go without. But we can stay home for a month if need be. Hubby can WFH but I can't I am going to guess we will extend our Spring Break which started Friday to two weeks. My youngest is a teacher near Seattle-her school is cancelled until April

We could not find any lysol or alcohol. We went to the liquor store and bought some cheap Bourbon .

What I saw that saddened me was people buying baby formula as a milk replacement. My para is a new mother and can't find formula for her baby girl.

Sat Mar 14, 2020, 08:46 PM
Mar 2020

If anything, many/most Americans are ill-prepared not just for this virus but any other emergency situation like a natural disaster or a major failing of our infrastructure due to whatever reason.

Even government websites recommend that we all have a certain amount of basic food and necessary supplies on hand...ranging anywhere from a week to a month. If something bad were to happen, then at least we'd all be somewhat self-sufficient for at least a short time rather than making a bad situation that much worse and requiring a massive federal response to take care of millions who didn't do shit to help prepare themselves a little.

You wanna see REAL fuckers and pendejos go check out some reich-wing survivalists websites sometime...they are almost relishing this crap. Hope they bought lots of seasoning...all that ammo they're stocking up on is pretty damn bland without a little salt and pepper.

42. Oh good grief
Sat Mar 14, 2020, 06:44 PM
Mar 2020

I'm high risk and could be facing quarantine or isolation for a prolonged time. I also have a medication that gives me digestive issues that often have me using far more TP than most other people. You try dealing with 4-8 episodes of diarrhea every single day--when you're relatively healthy, and see how much TP you go through. Now imagine being that way with Corona. Not a pretty idea, is it?

So I'm not buying the basketful of TP for shits and grins, pardon the pun, but because that's something I must do on a regular basis as it is. But if I'm going to be stuck at home and never go anywhere, possibly for several weeks? And if I get sick on top of it?

Either way, I need to have far more on hand than usual. I tried to get stocked up ahead, but a recent money crunch had me delaying what I thought were non-essentials, because I had quite a bit of what I needed on hand. But that didn't last forever. And then I needed to stock up harder than I normally would have, at a really bad time for taking care of that.

Am I supposed to ignore the CDC advice for high risk people like me, and not get what I need, when I need it, and can afford to get it?

Yes, there are idiot hoarders buying too much for no good reason, but this is what people do when they're scared to death--and well they should be, given how much our government has fucked up the COVID-19 response. We're on our own and we know it.

I guess if you insist, though, that Biden or BS (roll eyes) get out in front of the issue, then the proper response would be this:

Remind them of the medical advice, and to heed it.

Remind the public not to hoard, to consider other people out there--people like me who need stuff.

Give stern warnings to businesses to start clamping down on panic purchases, or else they'll be faced with more draconian measures like government-controlled rationing. If they don't voluntarily do it, it will be forced upon them, and sooner than any of us think.

The most important thing mere candidates can do is keep slamming the real source of the problem we're facing--the inept treasonous pig shitting all over any kind of (barely) adequate responses to a coming pandemic. That disgusting psychopath is the reason people are in a panic. They know he cares about them not at all, only about his own selfish wants. They know he's a fucking moron and has no fucking clue what he's doing while the country falls apart. And they've seen, already, that all the things that were supposed to prevent such an imbecile of a sadist from getting and keeping power have failed us. We're stuck with the amoral piece of shit, there's nothing we can do to get rid of him. We saw the evidence of it last month. People got the message loud and clear from that: We are on our own.

It's ridiculous when people blame Biden or even BS for things beyond their control, or to blame the public for doing what little they can to have the illusion of control. They can only do so much, because they don't have the power to do much. That's why their efforts will be little more than bandaids on an amputation. The problem is the person taking bone saws to the body politic and letting it bleed to death, right before our eyes. That's where we need to direct all attention and energy--holding the psychopathic asshole to account, every minute of every day, and not letting up.

Some people (like my partner) are simply buying more than usual lately...not because we are afraid of a disruption in the delivery of food and supplies, but to instead reduce the amount of opportunities for exposure.

What do you think would more likely lead to being exposed to the virus...going out every 2 or 3 days, or going out only once every week or two? Using your logic somebody could go off on a similar rant about people who don't plan ahead a little and continue to shop frequently like it was normal times being the ones who are actually making the problem worse.

I think there's a rational compromise between acting like absolutely nothing has happened and building a concrete bunker with 10 years worth of supplies because Armegeddon is right around the corner. Each person has to decide for him or herself what is "reasonable" and what isn't.

Making a big deal out of TP is the very definition of a silly issue. This shortage is not caused by people buying 20 cases of TP. It’s that everyone is buying all at once.

83. What do you consider "hoarding" and define as "Hoarders"?
Sun Mar 15, 2020, 10:13 AM
Mar 2020

I have a home in California and we are taught to be prepared at all times for a possible earthquake and with the wildfires, power outages and water and food shortages. I have all possible supplies in a storage area in my basement that include everything imaginable and while I hate the name "prepper" I guess you could call me a very very prepared person for the worst case scenario that is within my control.

I even have medical supplies, bandages and mediations (including prescription painkillers and antibiotics) and Lifestraws and bottles of chlorine bleach. I even have iodine tablets for my families thyroid. I have been trained at Emergency medical procedures at Sea because I used to do ocean cruising and sailing and need to know how to handle things in an emergency and be my own hospital.

I currently have enough food with caloric and nutritional content to keep my family going for 3 months. I have plenty of sanitizing supplies (chlorine, sanitizer, rubbing alcohol etc) and lots of toilet paper. But I also ordered bidet sprayers for the toilets and have asked my family to use them and have washcloths to "dry" that I can wash in hot water and soap and thus limit the use of toilet paper. I have started menu planning and how I use the food. (something I also learned at sea and ocean cruises that can last weeks, months).

Am I a "hoarder"?

I don't think so. I learned as a sailor that you have to be your own hospital and to prepare for the unexpected storm and incident that can happen. I see no difference right now with what is happening and what will be coming. And with a completely incompetent administration, I do not look towards them to solve this problem and I also know that many of my fellow citizens are completely clueless and I can't rely on them. So I am taking care of myself and my family. Call me whatever you want.

But I want to bring my sailboat safely into harbor after the storm with my crew all alive and safe.

We've been trying to stock up enough so that I don't have to go out for a month. My husband has been doing most of the supply runs, but he'll be going back to work soon, and he's gone for a month at a time.

I figure I'm a goner if I get this virus. I have asthma, often get bronchitis and respiratory infections, with occasional pneumonia. Since I cough a lot anyway, I'd probably be shunned in any public situation.

You don't know everybody's situation. You can't presume, and neither can our candidates. Has anyone accused you of being a hoarder when you are out buying supplies for the people you mention?
