Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumBiden allies see Warren as potential running mate
Several of Joe Biden's allies say they could see the former vice president picking Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) as his running mate to help unify the centrist and progressive wings of the party.
The speculation comes after Biden pledged to pick a woman as his running mate during the Democratic primary debate on Sunday.
Picking Warren would have its drawbacks, however, putting two septuagenarians at the top of the ticket from safe blue states.
"I think she represents a sort of bridge between the moderate land and progressive lane," said one longtime Biden ally who is in touch with the campaign.
"I'm hoping he goes with Kamala," the ally added, referring to Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calf.), who is one of several women mentioned as potential running mates. "I just don't think he'll do it."
Another Biden ally, who has spoken to the campaign regularly, said Warren "makes the most sense."
"There are a lot of qualified women but she would be the best choice without a doubt," the ally said.
Warren herself before ending her presidential campaign sought to present herself as a unity candidate who could help the Democratic Party's fractious branches come together against President Trump.

(3,974 posts)1 She's from a solid blue state and doesn't help in any of the swing states
2 She is an ideological clone of Biden and does nothing to attract voters from the progressive wing of the party
3 She doesn't energize African American voters who will have to come out in overwhelming numbers as they did for Obama
4 There is no way that Al Franken will be named to fill her Senate seat

your point 1- Minnesota is not solid blue. It is currently listed as "lean Dem" by Cook Political Report, and my point was about
the Midwest as a region rather than a specific state
2- I acknowledge both are basically center left, which is where the Democrats generally win (see Carter and Clinton)
3- I live in SC, where Biden won 49% of the vote in a field of 7 candidates, primarily as a result of large majorities of black voters
4- I never mentioned Franken; I said that there would, unlike several other states, be a guaranteed Democratic replacement
My personal favorite would be Harris, followed by Warren. My choice if I were on Biden's campaign staff would be Klobuchar.

No. While you are entitled to your own opinion, you're not to your own facts. Minnesota is a solid blue state. It has a Democratic Governor and both Senators are Democrats. It hasn't voted for a Republican for President since 1972. And in the last poll by the Minneapolis Star Tribune has Biden beating Trump by 12 points.
Also unfortunately the electoral college is by state not by region, so what swing state does Klobuchar help flip.
2- I acknowledge both are basically center left, which is where the Democrats generally win (see Carter and Clinton)
Biden is center left and is the nominee. He needs a VP that is more progressive or he's making the same mistake that Clinton did in 16.
3- I live in SC, where Biden won 49% of the vote in a field of 7 candidates, primarily as a result of large majorities of black voters
True, but Clinton won the AA vote overwhelmingly in both the primaries and election. But they still didn't vote in the same numbers they did for Obama. Klobuchar does noting to energize that vote.
4- I never mentioned Franken; I said that there would, unlike several other states, be a guaranteed Democratic replacement
I know but the hidden agenda of of many people pushing Kobuchar for VP is the delusion that he'll be appointed to her seat.
My personal favorite would be Harris, followed by Warren.
Both of whom come from solid blue states and don't help flip a swing state.

There was an old study somewhere, I'm sure I couldn't find it if I looked. Men love blondes. Blondes have more fun. But men trust brunettes more, and are more comfortable marrying them. Sadly a close election could hinge on something so superficial.

(9,801 posts)In this election. It needs to be a woman, and it needs to be a progressive, not a centrist or conservative Dem. Age is less important in this election than it has ever been, but she does appear as a good 10-20 years younger than her age, and look at the competition, I mean really...dumb and dumber look ancient next to her. We should never pick our candidates solely from a laundry list of attributes anyway, but we should acknowledge the need of the times we are in. In this election, we need progressives to be excited, the way we were when Obama was our candidate.
Sen Harris, Sen Klobuchar, both are excellent Senators and would be awesome in several positions if they were asked and chose to serve in a Biden administration. Stacy Abrahms is a rising star, and needs to run for the Senate where she can gain experience and name recognition.
Disclaimer- I voted for Warren in the primary, and would have voted for her in the16 primary if she had run. I think she is an amazing woman and would make a great VPOTUS or POTUS.
