(5,865 posts)and the political landscape. He knows his quixotic quest for the presidency is over. He's a realist. Bernie has fought for so many who have had no voice and will continue to do so. He is a man of conviction and guts who has ignited imaginations. And all you and so many others can do is rabidly belittle him and impune his integrity. It's pathetic and disgusting and a lot of other things I wont say. because I don't want my post removed by jury. The vindictivness displayed towards him is counter productive and bad mojo.

(5,865 posts)perfectly reasonable to think he would have done a hell of a lot better in Chicago. And while it didn't happen, it was a possibility. And don't you think that he thought he owed it to the millions that contributed to his campaign to at least see if it did. Especially in a freaky election cycle in which Biden came from behind after being counted out.
Bernie is one of a kind and a good dude. He will come into the fold as he said he would. DUers need not worry -- the socialist boogy man will join the fold as he said he would. He is so unappreciated and savagely derided as are many who are ahead of. their time.

(10,438 posts)Then he lost Super Tuesday badly and was behind 900,000 votes at that point.
Last week, he barely won North Dakota pseudo caucus and lost most of the other five states badly. He was behind 150 delegates and 1.4 million votes.
He had his final debate shot Sunday and lost by most accounts - corroborated tonight.
And then he got swept tonight and would have lost Ohio. He's ~300 delegates and 2.47 million votes behind.
He's lost key battleground states like Michigan and Florida without winning a county.
Next week, he's going to get clobbered in Georgia.
He's very likely to get clobbered in PA, DE, OH, MD & LA
So in order to win, Bernie will be required to win about 75% or more of the remaining delegates after only winning 39.8% last week and only 32% of them tonight.
Fivethirtyeight and others could see what was coming a couple of weeks ago.

(1,729 posts)is that Bernie is pandering to the so-called young voter basking in thick crowds out on the beaches of Florida right now, hoping they'll turn out at the next primary, or the next, or quite possibly the next, and that he could care less that these continued primaries are endangering the lives of the elderly voters. I guess I can see why. After all, he thinks he's the candidate of the young voter. Clearly he doesn't care if the aged come out to vote like they always do and catch this horrible virus. He's almost as responsible for keeping this deadly contagion going as Trump. These primaries should be cancelled. Smaller elections and ballot questions can be postponed. Presidential can't (Article Two). So yeah, I think it's pretty mean that Bernie doesn't care if millions of old people die just so he can get a few more weeks to pressure Joe into adopting some of his policies.

(84,136 posts)Whatever my feelings for each of the two last men standing, I WAY sympathize with how you feel.
When you give your heart to a candidate, and he or she isn't able to go all the way, it just sucks.
Sounds like taking a day (or three) to process stuff is a good idea. Most of us are house-bound anyway. This would be a great time to catch up on rest, or old emails, or something. Finish a craft project. Watch or read the news and keep up, and maybe take some notes. it may help arm you well enough to win an argument (with someone who obviously doesn't follow facts because otherwise, why would they support trump?). Now that spring seems to be here where I live, I may do some gardening out front, when I'm not sitting at my laptop doing Indivisible work, that is.
The next few days might be THE perfect time to give yourself a time-out. Sounds like the moment to cue the vintage McDonald's fast-food jingle that starts "you deserve a break today..." And besides, if you have to "shelter in place," and you're not in the mood for McDonald's, there's always the Food Network!

(189 posts)Except I don't agree that Bernie's quest was quixotic, that would imply that he was delusional as was Don Quixote of literary fame. A lot of young people and myself, not so young, think his ideas should be the foundation for the Democratic party: Medicare for All, a minimum wage that rises with inflation, free state college tuition, some kind of student debt relief, a Green New Deal, etc. It's funny how these ideas were mocked as quixotic, pie-in-the-sky and impossibly expensive by corporate Dems, like Biden, and Republicans for ages. Now they are ideas with die-hard supporters that will have to be reckoned with.

(28,744 posts)It's simple math, really. Sanders would need a 20-to-30-point surge in every state just to be competitive and he'd probably still lose. And that was before today.

He has zero chance of winning smaller blue states like Connecticut, Hawaii, Rhode Island and Delaware. And he has beyond zero chance of winning the big prizes remaining: New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland and New Jersey.
When you have no path to victory, you put on your big kid pants and concede, for the good of the party and the country.
You don't keep hanging on because your ego (or worse) refuses to believe that the American people have decided that they don't want you or what you're peddling.

(28,744 posts)Just because it's Sanders in the race, we should ignore reality? Nah.
Candidates withdraw before the primary process has completed pretty much every election cycle. Sanders supporters aren't unique in supporting a candidate who no longer has any chance in the race and should withdraw. It happens to most voters every cycle.
The race is clearly over. He's just wasting everyone's time and energy at this point. If Sanders supporters are infuriated by simple math and reality, there's not much we can do to change that other than to suggest that they try some deductive reasoning. They should probably be more upset that he's giving them false hope and still asking them for money for a campaign that is clearly going to lose.

(28,744 posts)That's not unique either, of course. There is always a subset of voters who won't vote because their candidate didn't win the nomination. It happens every cycle. We just have to account for it and ignore the ones who are intent on disruption and won't show up regardless.

(1,076 posts)Plenty of candidates wrap up a nomination long before all voters get to see a ballot. Until 2008, I saw neither hide nor hair of a primary candidate in my state during my adult life because, in previous races, the nominee had already been decided by then, so why bother? We voted, but that was because we had down-ticket races to deal with. Our votes didn't change anything about who the nomination became. Because it was already decided, long ago.
We in the tail end states put on our big kid pants and got over it when the nominee became clear before we got to vote. We didn't stamp our feet and demand to get to see all of the candidates, just because the voters decided early on who they wanted. That's because we were adults, not whiny-ass titty babies wanting their wishful thinking coddled.
Why do you demand that we all make an exception to the tradition of losers bowing out graciously when they have no clear path to winning, and, worse, demand it for a self-serving fake Democrat? Do you not comprehend the concept of good sportsmanship?
It's over, and it's time for the party to coalesce around our candidate, Joe Biden, rather than coddling a sore loser past his sell-by date.
if you don't like it that other people are ready to support their candidate and look ahead to November, then just go home and cry before voting for Dolt45 like you must want to, to keep supporting a loser staying in a race only because he wants to promote himself and his unicorn agenda, both of which Democratic voters--liberal voters--have made clear they do not want.
Because he will not be the candidate and dragging out the primaries because he refuses to accept that helps only the Mango Menace.

(21,804 posts)If you want potential Biden voters to feel cheated and left out then sure, it;s a great plan.
But what's the point? Biden is going to win. Let it play out as it is designed to play out What is a god damned rush? This is the perfect opportunity for Biden to come out with a unifying the party by demanding a full process where everyone is heard. Why is that hard? Why is that bad?
Your premise demands that Biden be too weak o defend himself. That's clearly wrong. Biden has proven he is stronger than that. Why blow the opportunity out of unfounded fear?
