Democratic Primaries

Here is an interesting take from former Maryland Governor and Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley who ran against Hillary and Bernie in 2016 and initially supported Beto O'Rourke's 2020 run, so he is not exactly a Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden surrogate.

Heres a guy who has been a kind of stalwart of the National Rifle Association, a man who said immigrants steal our jobs right up until he ran for president, a guy who said the sound of John Kennedys voice made him nauseous.
* * *
I respect the fact that hes been saying the same things, mostly, since 1952, albeit dialing down his hatred for John Kennedy and his disdain for immigrants, but I just dont get the appeal.
Hes a man who never has accomplished anything in public office, who has I believe demonstrated his inability to forge a governing consensus, let alone hold a governing consensus. And I think hed be an awful choice as our partys nominee.

(58,785 posts)* massive lies about what he would achieve to attract voters and what that reveals about him,
* trying to overthrow the popular vote in pursuit of power and what that reveals about him,
* running a populist campaign to pull together some of the most aggressively dangerous people found in any nation to lie and smash a way to power and what that reveals about Sanders, and
* unending lies about Democrats to keep us from getting power and what that reveals about him.
I'm a Martin O'Malley admirer and would have been glad to have him for president, but I think he should have been shouting this to the nation all along. MSM, RW and LW anti-Demorats, and Russia created a credibility around Sanders that enabled him to dissuade uncounted millions from voting Democrat.

(15,489 posts)O'Malley did not attract more of those who style themselves as "progressives" in 2016. He was the Real Deal as compared to the Sanders Sham, both then and now.
One of my regrets from 2016 is that HRC did not choose O'Malley as her running mate. I understand the strategic thinking and have nothing against Tim Kaine, who's a good guy, but I still wish otherwise.
Whether it would have made enough of a difference we'll never know.

(38,687 posts)I've still don't get why Bernie. I'd see clips of Hollywood types fawning over him at rallies, John Cusack calling him 'my North Star' and that guy from Shawshank Redemption saying Bernie was 'our moral center,' and all I could think was 'Seriously?' 'Him?' 'When did this all come about?' It was like someone plucked the sleepiest klutz from the chorus line and tried to pass them off as a sprightly new lead via rampant ballyhoo and nonstop bullshit.

(23,617 posts)the year before at another meeting. Martin O'Malley is the real deal. The truth about Iowa, is that the Democratic party movers and shakers are the hardest left in the United States. And they are powerful. Hearts are in the right place, but they keep picking people who have not a chance in hell. But we carry on..
Edit to add... if we had a primary where everyone could vote, then Sanders never would have had a chance. He worked the caucuses where only the most fervent will go ..I should know, I never miss one. and it is was always the same people

(23,738 posts)His supporters are loud and seem to have the time and motivation to attend caucuses. They seem anti-democratic, attended by those who don't have more important things to do, like tend to children, go to work, etc.
