The Green Party, a political party that prioritizes environmental issues, posted a statement Wednesday attempting to court supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who dropped out of the Democratic presidential race earlier in the day.
The Green Party will continue to build and expand on issues that Sanders raised. Join us, the statement read.

Sanders's exit paved the road to the Democratic nomination for former Vice President Joe Biden after a series of disappointing primaries for the Sanders campaign leading up to the Wisconsin election Tuesday.
Biden rose to the nomination by consolidating support among the moderate wing of the party while struggling to court the partys left wing.

(9,540 posts)Green voters in critical swing-states can also take credit for the devastating assault on the environment committed by the Trump administration as well as the gutting of air and water quality regulation still left in place!
THATll show that right-wing impure Hillary Clinton!

(3,953 posts)That to accomplish anything in politics you have to work from the inside out, not from the outside in. There's where Bernie made a very big mistake, however that just shows how Bernie does not play well with others.

(58,785 posts)and our "left wing" is over 90% of our entire membership and includes a full ideological range of liberals.
Illiberal leftists are something else, both literally and figuratively. Thank heavens they're so few, or the world would never have advanced as far as it has -- as the very notion that liberal Democrats need to "struggle" to keep them from helping reelect Trump should make extremely clear.
Those who gravitate angrily to the Greens can only do harm to everything they CLAIM to support by helping elect Republicans. We know not all are capable of realizing that, though.
I wish some billionaire would buy that aspirational name from this dysfunctional refuge for malicious dissidents and clueless flakes, and retire it for some future, deserving retry someday. Its very misleading marketing is the only thing that roiling collection of transients has going for it.

(58,785 posts)and chose to include that last part, that standard hostile misrepresentation of a very small, intransigently dissident faction, Sanders' 25%, as our party's "left wing." They don't even have enough representatives in congress to be counted as a micro-caucus. Literally. They voted against Democrats last time and promise to again. And they will because that's who they are.
Even worse is to suggest that Biden has to "struggle" to get the votes of all Sanders' other supporters. That is a grave insult to people who always intended to vote Democrat because they are Democrats. That's who they are.

(1,868 posts)abandoned Jimmy Carter and handed the election to Ronald Reagan - I remember my leftie pals saying "dont worry, things will get so bad that people will finally rise up and revolt."
Jimmy Carter! He was considered to be "boring" and not left enough.... so a lot of people didn't bother to vote.
40 years later..... a new generation of young idiots is still saying the same thing.
No ! Cant assume people will "rise up." Look at history - oftentimes they only get more beaten down and subjugated.
Generally revolutions happen during periods of rising expectations. That means that the kind of revolutionary change want is more likely to be launched during a period of Dem rule, and not far RW .... i.e. a Republican party that is now in open alliance with white supremacists and neo-fascists.
