Letters: Texas man asks: Could Pete Buttigieg be that once-in-a-lifetime candidate?America may be witnessing a unique moment in its political and rhetorical history. On Sunday (4-14) I was delighted to see my citys mayor Steve Adler (Mayor of Austin, Texas) introduce Pete Buttigieg on the occasion of his official announcement as a presidential candidate.
With each day, every new speech, and additional interview, Americans are becoming increasingly impressed by Buttigieg. As a scholar of communication, I find him rhetorically and politically distinctive. Buttigiegs sharp intellect, compassion, clear vision and hope for America, impeccable understanding of history, ability to talk directly to voters and thorough grounding in the issues facing our nation are nothing less than striking.
I realize he lacks experience, but perhaps Buttigieg is that once in a lifetime presidential candidate who comes on the scene at precisely the right time with a potentially persuasive and bipartisan message a message calling for genuine change (where change is more than a cliché and tired rhetorical trope) is needed to extricate the country from a dangerous time in history.
Might Buttigieg be the one? I wonder.

(12,344 posts)Buttigieg not only read linguist George Lakoff's book on framing political messages(Don't Think of an Elephant) he corresponded with the author. You can see Lakoff's influence in his messaging.
I find Buttigieg unique in that he brings a level of strategic planning based on political science and research rather than consultant opinion or luck.

(24,107 posts)the best presidents ever. Mayor Pete reminded me of BO too. Maybe this guy is the guy that can do it, and after all, it's going to take our newer generation to ignore or out tweet our so called president. They have tons of experience in tweeting and communicating using these new tools, and I suspect that this generation can outdo rump's tweets easily.

(24,107 posts)twittering yet, I'm not in the Tweet World). Take care.
Of course we've all seen our joke of a so called president's ignorant tweets to the point of "please do not ever say anything more in your life and we will all be happy!"
