(19,460 posts)Elmendorf is hosting a goddamn fundraiser for Mayor Pete. Lots of wealthy people including lobbyists host fund raisers for their preferred candidate. If that is bothersome for some, by all means, choose another candidate. If Beyoncé shows up at a fundraiser for Kamala hosted by Elmendorf are you going to switch sides? Jesus Christ on a crutch!

The 2 primary winning campaigns will spend over TWO BILLION USD combined. That sure aint coming in 27 bucks at at a time.
All of the primary candidates will play the old okie-doke via super pacs and bundlers

(46,212 posts)so the clubbing/liquor quotient is on the rise! Also working my American expat network via face to faces, pushing Pete. It is going swimmingly!
I must admit, Brexit is trumping (shoot me for the pun, I deserve it!) all atm. (we are both dual US/UK citizens).
I must say (with full awareness I am on an American board).

(46,212 posts)If she is, Sweden is the place, eapecially if she has a portable, in-demand skillset. If Trump wins re-election, we will probably move back to London or Stockholm (we are both part Swedish) or Hong Kong (have lived there as a child and as an adult) on a semi-permanent basis. I love Los Angeles but we have to think about our mid twenties to 50ish prime years.
I cannot wrap my head around the psychic torture of so many on here who live in regressive ruby red states. Life is far far too short to just endure tyranny. If things go truly pear shaped, I could foresee our marriage de-legalised in half or more of the nation. We don't need that shit.

(25,916 posts)Her degree is in environmental policy. Presently she is an assistant-teacher in a Montessori preschool in Montana. "Fuck this shit," I think she is saying!
She also works with the US Forest Service in the summers on wildfire dispatch. Who knows...maybe it will be in demand in Sweden eventually.

(46,212 posts)She could write her own ticket EU-wide. Same for KTH (Sweden's MIT). Damn shame the country started charging non EU students tuition 5 years ago. She could have went for free (or even been paid to study) anytime bedore then. They teach in English btw. Also, she should look into Austria. Universität Wien is still only like 1000 euros or so per year tuition for non EU. Vienna is da bomb to live in.

(34,195 posts)King has been the target of claims that he has previously raised funds for causes that were never received by those he was fundraising for. According to BuzzFeed News, he founded an organization called Justice Together, which he raised several thousand dollars for, and then abruptly shuttered.
He started a different organization a few months later called Justice. That's All. that he also closed a few months after founding. In one case, a former member of the organization who asked to have donation returned said that King refused to refund her money.
An investigation done by Goldie Taylor of The Daily Beast detailed discrepancies in amounts raised for different charities such as a Haiti relief project, and in one case, starting a crowdfunding project for the family of Tamir Rice without their knowledge. Activists on Twitter questioned if he took the $100,000 reward money for information that led to the arrest of the men who shot Jazmine Barnes.
On January 15, 2019, King tweeted that he was pursuing legal action against social justice activists on Twitter who questioned his previous fundraisers. His attorneys sent cease and desist letters to an unnamed number of people;
one a young, Black, queer activist named Clarissa Brooks who stated in a response, "this was a heavy-handed and unnecessary act by someone claiming to be committed to justice and uplifting Black people."
David Dennis Jr. wrote in News One that the purpose of the cease and desist letters seemed to be "old-fashioned intimidation and forcible silencing."

Let's make sure we are in a supportive spirit here. It's about building not venting negativity toward Pete Buttigieg.
If you want to post your negative opinions toward our candidate it belongs in the Dem Primary group.

(627 posts)all of them are in a monetary bind. They cannot compete unless they raise large amounts of money, and so they are constricted by the system. Pete wants to rescind Citizens United, but he can't do that until he is elected. Please give him -- and other candidates who are forced to operate within the current, unjust, broken, but real electoral system -- some leeway to raise funds without attacking them for operating within a process they did not create, but must function within until they gain the power to change it.
