Related: About this forumWho is still on Mayor Pete's team after the debate? And why
He has many assets smart, courageous, compassionate but the thing that really stands out to me is his intellectual integrity.
With Mayor Pete you know not only what policy he backs but why.
In this way I believe he is inheriting the Obama legacy.

(9,294 posts)Why wouldn't I be? He's running for President, he needs to show me his fight. Earn my vote.
You want it Mayor Pete, good, prove it.
I'm also happy Harris attacked Biden at that exact time in the debate. After a week, when the polls go back to normal, I will see if my theory is correct.

(9,688 posts)He has rock-solid integrity of character. And he has a sense of humor. All of these qualities (the ones you mentioned plus these two) I consider essential qualities in a successful presidency, especially given what the next president will face after 4 years of the Thug-Traitor-Vandal-in-Chief.
Unlike MF45, Pete really is a stable genius.
And, as a bonus (one possibly crucial to winning the general election), he has a genuine connection to the midwest.
Finally, there's this indefinable thing, too: when I watched him during the debates, I kept thinking to myself, "I'm watching a president."
As worthy as many of the other candidates are for a variety of reasons , I simply do not have that feeling about any of the other candidates.
Pete just has the right stuff.

(91 posts)He just somehow stands out far and above the rest.
His unwavering and reasonable progressive ideology plus that he seems very sincerely to be a level-headed, well-balanced, and appropriately caring individual (rare in any crowd) have me sold.
(Not to mention his crazy superhero powers; high intelligence, creative talent, wit, etc. etc. etc.).

(91 posts)What has happened that would make you say you don't give up easily?
What would there be to give up on him for?
Runningdawg
(4,590 posts)It was ONE debate. The FIRST debate. Why on earth would anyone cut and run at this point? The day I give up on Pete is the day he doesn't receive the nomination and I start campaigning for the person who does.
JustThinking...
(91 posts)I thought I was missing something that would make folks reconsider their support for Pete. I didn't see anything like that happen lately so I was confused when you said "that easily".
I was glad to see in the debates that there are other candidates I would be ok with supporting in the general election if it comes to that, but I didn't see anything at all to dampen my support for Pete, just the opposite really.

(46,154 posts)and then the media (of course) fanning the flames. I actually think his admission that he has failed and will do anything possible to fix it going forward at the debate was a masterstroke. It has gotten almost universal approval, even from a lot of the minority community leadership. It show humbleness and honesty.

(91 posts)I only wish he had had the chance to respond to the attack from Swalwel (?) and was able to explain that he "hasn't fired the officer" because 1. the investigation of the incident isn't over yet and 2. hiring and firing decisions of police officers is not done by the Mayor's office.
And YES! His straight forward and honest acceptance of the responsibility for the state of the progress made so far in improving the police department was golden.
Celerity
(46,154 posts)pundit afterwards as Pete has just said exactly the legal process that could lead to dismissals. Swalwell looked totally ill-informed (and not a good listener), as Pete has already answered the subject of Swalwell's interjection a few seconds before he blurted it out.

Swalwell wouldn't make my top 5 people in CA's congressional delegation.
Brazenly ambitious like Gillibrand IMO

(17,023 posts)3 of our watch group are still with Pete, and one still undecided. I like that he owned the issue with policing in his community. And he is not the only one who can do something on this issue. He's smart and always seems to know what to say and take it a nudge further at every venture.

(2,005 posts)I didn't watch any of the debates, hoping to pick up Pete's portions on you tube or other videos. I personally don't think these 'debates' do much to really give the candidates much opportunity for more than some sound bites. Maybe a 30 second chance to stand out a little. I prefer the town halls, or other venues to get to see what they have to say in longer format. In any case, I'm with Pete until the end....or he's inaugurated!!!

After so much time with trump in the picture, I find I hate watching our candidates attack one another and had to just stop watching most of the debates because of it.

(6,260 posts)as I am afraid that police shooting in his city may have had irreversible effect on his campaign. Im gonna have to see the developments in the following months. If elections are held today, Id vote for him. But Kamala is my #2 choice followed closely by Warren and Biden. I am not interested in any other candidates.

(9,688 posts)Making good decisions with long-term consequences, often in emergencies, that "3 AM phone call" will be required of the next president on every front. Decisions on personnel.Decisions on war and peace. Perceptions of other leaders foreign leaders and members of Congress (I'm looking at you, Mitch McConnell) who want to undermine our democracyand decisions on how to handle them. Decisions on policies and actions regarding climate change, infrastructure, economic issues (I assume that we'll be in a financial crisis by the time the next president takes office in Jan. 202), repairing our democracy, deciding priorities about what to fix first.
Of all the candidates, Mayor Pete is the one I'd trust to make those decisions.
Good judgment requires all the qualities that have been mentioned so far on this thread: intellectual integrity, knowledge, character, emotional stability. But it requires something else, too. Wisdom? Good sense? Ability to think on your feet? Ability to think straight when you're getting conflicting advice? Integration of all these qualities? Anyway, whatever the secret sauce, I'm confident that Pete has it.
In case it's not already obvious: yes, I'm all in now. .
And, yes, I've donated, too. I have very little money, but I've still set up a monthly donation a small amount that matches my small income, but reflecting my firm commitment.
