(20,700 posts)I'm sure Pete will be much more cautious in how he phrases things about Hillary in the future. For some, it's already too late because if you suggest anything short of Hillary being infallible, you're toast in their minds. But for most, this will be a minor blip within weeks and they'll be so overwhelmed with Mayor Pete's qualities that they'll embrace him.

(12,344 posts)Only political junkies make a big a deal out of this sort of thing, so I don't think it matters in the end.

(20,700 posts)so I guess it depends on your definition of "political junkie." I'm sure a lot of folks don't tune in for CNN political chatter, but it's giving the topic a little more of a profile than it would have had otherwise.
Regardless, I see this as a minor stumble, at worst (not that Mayor Pete didn't have a valid point, just that the way he expressed it was enough to set off Hillary's most ardent supporters).

(12,344 posts)I guess I'd say a political junkie in this case is someone who takes personal insult when one politician criticizes another. It would be different if it were a frequent occurrence, but he's mostly making a positive case for himself and confines his criticism to Trump and Pence.

(20,700 posts)Unfortunately some people fixate. One remark and they're out for blood.

(46,700 posts)The attacks are coordinated, systemic, it is always a swarm, and they never ever stop with the distortions, (sometimes even outright lies) and/or false framing. Deffo some pros, way too skilled and always at the ready with a new logical fallacy real-time that they pivot to within seconds of your reply.
I hate the false meme-setting abilities the swarm has. It is fucking relentless and absolute wearying to try and combat. One them even accused me of spamming simply because I tried to address multiple peoples' concerns (based off a string of repetitive Tweet postings smears up and down, down and up SO many times) in the threads. Oh the irony!!!
It also has a chilling-effect because I feel like I am always on the verge of being alert-stalked to a ban (which is why I will never give money here for a membership, as I lurked for a couple months before I joined and saw so many run off that way), and that really blunts my ability to respond in kind.
I have yet to see a single Buttigieg supporter have a real go at any other candidate, other than maybe some having a minor pop at the designated punching-bag known as BS, yet the swarm comes and takes a giant shit over ours with impunity. They did and do the same with AOC (exact same posters doing the exact same things), but I think they have lost that overall battle, at least for now.
I am really down at the moment, feel the worst since I joined last summer.
I think I need to take a break for a day or two.

(20,700 posts)Or just hang out in the DU Lounge for a while.
I just got a hide this morning as a result of rather heated exchange with a ________ individual (fill in the blank yourself) who has been repeatedly predicting Pete's political demise based on the single contentious Hillary statement. I should have left well enough alone but I dug in.
You read "DU is like family," and at times you might even feel that way. But there are some people here who I wouldn't want a thing to do with in real life (I guess that's sort of like some families too).
Mostly good folks though. Mostly good folks.

(12,344 posts)Don't take DU too seriously. We are ust a tiny slice of the Democratic Party. What goes on here doesn't carry much weight in the real world.
