(2,809 posts)"It was about growing up and learning about the commonalities among people regardless of where they were born, or what languages spoke by their grandparents or how their last names are spelled, and that guides me through today especially when we now have such powerful forces in this country that are trying to sow hate and division among us. When you really understand people you know that most of our urges, most of our desires for ourselves and our families are universal in nature."
From 10/02/2017:
Lets speak the truth that when Americans demand recognition that their lives matter, or kneel to call attention to injustice, that that is an expression of free speech, protected by our Constitution, and they should not be threatened or bullied, Harris said in a speech on the topic of the divided United States. In her speech, which was delivered at the second-oldest African-American congregational church in the country, the senator compared the actions of Kaepernick and some of his NFL colleagues, who have been taking kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial inequality and police brutality, to the civil rights movement of the 1960s. Harris said that while the anthem serves a reminder of the military service members who died for American freedoms, she also argued that when singing the Star-Spangled Banner, we also think about those marching in the streets who demand that the ideals of that flag represent them too.
From June 30, 2019, SF Pride:
Think about all the strong, broad shoulders we stand upon when we celebrate the pride that we have, she called to the crowd. This movement in so many ways ... was about people who had the courage to fight for equality. People who had the strength to know that they may have been the only one in the room but they represented so many voices and so many people.
From above:
"The American public deserves to have a president of the United States that has the ability to see them and focus on their needs, the needs that keep them up at night or wake them up in the middle of the night and I'm prepared to do that, which is why I have a proposal that is not only about lifting up middle class and working families around the tax credits but it's around paying teachers their value, it's about paying women equally as men, it's about addressing the issue of DACA and Dreamers, it is about looking at what we need to do to reform a criminal justice system that is in drastic need of reform" snip
Considering all of the above and a hundred other statements, Mrs. Harris has my vote of confidence.

(284 posts)I became a Harris supporter during the Jeff Sessions hearings. I'd never heard of her before. But then this smart, articulate woman of color shed truth and I was hooked. I made certain to see anytime she was grilling someone during congressional hearings. Long before she ran, I was, "I hope this woman runs. This is exactly what we need."
It was and still is my intention to volunteer toward her campaign. I am an old (53), white, gay, southern male. Unfortunately, my husband (3 years) and partner (22 years) died 3 months ago. I'm dealing with my own health issues. But I want to get my act together to support the best candidate for US President. She is Kamala Harris.
