Jack White to perform at Bernie Sanders rally in Detroit
Making a rare public foray into politics, rocker Jack White will join Democratic presidential contender Bernie Sanders on Sunday at a Detroit rally.
The U.S. senator's campaign announced that White will perform a musical set at the event, which will also feature U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Detroit. A spokesman for White confirmed the musician's participation.
The rally will start at 5 p.m. Sunday at Cass Tech, the high school alma mater of White, who grew up in southwest Detroit and went on to fame with the White Stripes.
White has largely steered clear of explicit political pronouncements and endorsements throughout his two-decade public life. His company, Third Man Records, launched a line of "Icky Trump" merchandise during the presidential campaign of Donald Trump — playing off the 2007 White Stripes album "Icky Thump."
