This is one reason for those proposals. Less critical thinking skills and less access to knowledge leads to an easier to manipulate by fear and lies voting population. It also provides a large permanent underclass to exploit.

I think it has to do with the absolutely high numbers of non respondents that maybe traditionally lean Democratic but they are harder to reach due to technology making it easier not taking unknown numbers. People who do that are probably more likely to be slightly more tech savvy and younger than the ones who respond.

5. Rebels for Trump?

Trump is many things. One of his most basic features is that he is a rebel. He rebels against norms, laws, rules, civility, etc., etc., etc. I am thinking that that behavior attracts certain types of followers. The "inner rebel" might be an alter ego for quite a few people. I am thinking about all of the police type TV shows in which a hero breaks the rules, stretches the limits, "goes in" before backup arrives, etc. Apparently rebelliousness sells. There are those who love how Trump just "says what he thinks". In other words, he rebels against communication related norms. He promotes violence. He calls people names. He calls intelligent people dumb. etc. Trump is a rebel. I think Trump is like the embodiment of an alter ego for numerous people especially those who have issues with rules, expectations, restrictions, etc., so called control issues. Where does one find lots of rules, expectations, restrictions, etc.? Religions. Military. Authoritarian structures. I suggest this is one of the reasons so many religious people are all-in with Trump. There seem to be many who love Trump but have a difficult time explaining why. They're voting for Trump. Why? They just are.

So, we have "ignorant" people for Trump. We have rebels for Trump. And let's see... racists for Trump. Russians for Trump. Bullies for Trump. What fun!
