For the second time in eight years, a woman lost the race for the presidency. Despite strong support among women of color, Vice President Kamala Harris lost ground with nearly every other demographic group compared to Joe Biden in 2020. Harris’ loss is causing some to question whether America is ready for a woman in the White House. Amna Nawaz discussed more with Erinn Haines and Kelly Dittmar. - Aired on 11/08/2024.

3. I've wondered about this for awhile, especially since one of the most qualified candidates in U.S. history "lost"

To one of the least qualified ever - Hillary Clinton, a First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State "lost" to a failed "businessman" with no government experience and no knowledge of either history or even geography. And I've also gone through the list in my head, Golda Meir (Israel), Indira Gandhi (India), Benazir Bhutto (Pakistan), Margaret Thatcher (Britain), Angela Merkel (Germany). Mary Robinson (Ireland), Jacinda Ardern (New Zealand) - and those were just ones I thought of offhand, I'm sure that there have been many more. And these weren't necessarily recent...

4. Fair question if highly qualified women like Harris and Clinton couldn't beat a clown like Trump

Especially Harris given all of the better known reasons to vote against Trump 2.0. It was a bit more speculative when Clinton ran but he is a known terrible quantity now and we still couldn't shatter that ceiling held together significantly by misogyny. Sad commentary on our electorate in so many ways.

There is misogyny in Mexico but it now has a woman president. Few Americans even know this fact, few Americans know about the Great Leap Forward on legal abortion in Mexico

Please read about Claudia Sheinbaum on Wikipedia and let us know what you that about how Mexican men and women have succeeded where we have seemed to be failing.

But since then we've had TWO of the most qualified and experienced candidates in our history, Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris - who "lost" to a failed businessman who is now a convicted criminal.

If you will take the time to read about the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, on Wikipedia I would like to hear your opinion.

7. I honestly think it was less sexism, and more of the national environment.

Exit polls showed 45 percent of voters said the country is on the wrong track, and 75 percent said higher prices have had a negative impact on their lives in the past year.

And, Biden’s approval in swing states was about 40 percent.

Those are incredibly difficult political headwinds to be going up against, and she still only lost the blue wall by a point or two in each state. In a more neutral environment, she probably wins.

Mexico is a macho country yet abortion is becoming the law of the land in Mexico

When US media, including PBS, does not report fully on the environmentalist Sheinbaum’s win in 2024 and Mexico’s abortion protections it is keeping us in a right wing news bubble and advancing false narratives that divide and conquer us. We need a free press with real in depth reporting not this.Our news media has become propaganda.

Call and write PBS and NPR and demand in depth reporting now on why Mexico and many Latin American countries are moving ahead while we are rapidly regressing.

Mexico now has a GDP higher than Spain. It still has its organized crime problem, it I still has male bias issues yet it has been able to advance in terms of social progress and freedom and healthcare.
