(222,059 posts)And since his ambition is to recreate the USSR, Ukraine is only the beginning. Who would be next? I have been to then-Soviet Georgia, and the hate towards Russia was palpable. There were many statues of Stalin who I thought was in disfavor at the time, so I asked. And I was told that Stalin was Georgian, not Russian, and he was held in esteem in Georgia because "he killed so many Russians."

(5,705 posts)those who remember the Russians holding back from chasing the Nazis out of Poland when they could have done so. It gave them more weeks to slaughter Poles and I've spoken to descendants of survivors and their elders would get a hard look in their eye when even talking about it. I have said before that if Putin makes a serious move on Poland then NATO had better react in minutes because I don't think the Poles will wait hours before responding on their own despite facing daunting odds. They remember what happened the last time of waiting for someone who said they would come.
