An East Tennessee State University’s Reece Museum art exhibit is generating controversy. The artist, Joel Gibbs, said his “Evolution” piece responds to fascism. The piece shows a swastika morphing into a cross, which is painted behind a portrait of Republican U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson. Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., discusses what could happen to colleges and universities under the Trump administration if they don't address the hate acts.

Rep. Burchett does not understand the First Amendment to the Constitution. Threatening to withdraw federal money from universities for offering countering viewpoints is coercion.

His response to a question about the massacres of school children in their schools was to say "We ain't gonna fix it because criminals do crime." Very straight-faced and shamelessly in opposition to yet another futile attempt by Democrats to rein in the sale of assault rifles like the AR-15.

I emphasize: his point was that school massacres are natural events caused by bad people, so leave our guns alone! That school slaughters of children at their desks is not fixable in any way. That's what this dickhead said. That's what he believes.
