18. You must be in Dwinelle Hall in UC Berkeley!

On the outside it looks like a regular building but when you enter it you’re actually on the 3rd floor because it’s built on an incline.

It was built by two brothers who couldn’t agree on anything so the result is

One side of the building is numbered in the 100s and the other in the 1,000s.

The heights of the ceilings are different on each side so that one side has one more floor than the other.

(Mind you, the outside of the buildings looks totally normal throughout)

The elevators don’t show floor numbers. Instead they show letters. And these letters are different on each elevator.

UPS has dedicated delivery people for the University because it has it’s own zip code and they have to know where to go because lots of areas are cut off from vehicle access for security reasons. So one of the things UPS would do would be to send their new employees to Dwinelle Hall to deliver stuff. It was a rite of passage.

During the first two or three days of classes the building manager would set up a kiosk at the main entrance to direct students to their classes.

I worked on the top floor in the outer corner of the building and would get lost people come to my office and ask for help on a daily basis.
