There are approximately 190 progressive liberals in the house, including maybe 40 at most who'd be willing to lose everything rather than compromise further -- if they got carried away talking with no one but each other, plus another 20-something in the conservative Blue Dog caucus, and whomever

Watch Pelosi to see how this is going to resolve. She's been very strongly progressive for much longer than Jayapal, but she's where she is because she's committed to never settling for nothing.

The $174,000 members are paid, plus extremely lavish benefits, allows some to imagine they're standing "tough" on principles, and maybe they are principled, but no matter how it turns out they'll be standing in luxury and surrounded by professionals who call them "sir" and "ma'am."

But Nancy never forgets that she's fighting for people who can't imagine having that kind of money and many of them are in big trouble right now. That's why she's great.
