You're shocked, no doubt. But the best antidote for this sickness is to publicly debunk it so that others see its destructiveness and those who fund that destruction.
The other more long term way, imo, is to structure public education so that children really learn reading (creative and content subjects, of course), thinking about others' thinking, writing -- from personal to public to research to analysis and prediction -- and the models we have of the universe, math and science.
Getting there is one thing. Staying there is another, so the longer term goal is to make education a fundamental constitutionally protected right, so that it's got federal funding and jurisdictional power over the dumbass half who keep spreading dumbassery to their descendants.
