(21,885 posts)That's what we're seeing that is completely unacceptable to me. I think Netanyahu and his military commanders are craven lunatics intent on murder, but that has absolutely nothing to do with my Jewish neighbor, co-worker, or neighborhood synagogue, zero. And it is not a reflection of all Israelis either, anymore than what Trump did as President is a reflection of the people who post on DU.
I think you see this with a lot of groups, where prejudice wants to hold everyone responsible for the actions of a few. Netanyahu and the IDF have nothing to do with most American Jews. Heck, I've known Jewish people who are probably protesting Netanyahu and this war themselves. And I know Jews who couldn't care less about Israel and the region over there in general.
I see this all the time in the media where black people are held responsible for the entire actions of all black people in America. When we talk about problems, all the sudden it becomes, "your community." That's a lot to put on an individual, maybe people are just living their own lives and responsible only for themselves. Maybe my black freind bears no more responsiblilty for "his community" than I do for mn community of generic middle aged white guys. And I used to see it really pronounced in the comment sections online of local news. Where some crime was all the sudden a prooblem for the entire black community, when the crime some white guy did was just his own problem. No one ever said in artile about a DUI arrest after an accident with a white driver, "you've got to do something about your community, all these white guys getting DUIs is something all white people should work to fix..." But some black kid gets in trouble with the law and all the sudden every black person in the city should asnwer for it?
