91. A note from Downunder - what an Aussie men's group concluded.

Disclaimer - I'm Australian. But I'm commenting here because we're scared. I sat around with my men's group over pizza and beers - and there was genuine fear about the potential for an actual decline of democracy in your country. That - or worse. Civil war.

Here's the thing: I hate what I'm about to say. I think adults should use their brains and vote for policy, not personality. Vote for maintaining a fair and decent society, not the person with the meanest put-downs or quickest wit. In fact - I get positively BORED by personality politics - because what I want to hear about is climate change, energy policy, housing, building neighbourhoods with a walkable town square, gun policy, public transport, universal public health like we have in Australia, etc.

But NO! All the talk is of how bad Biden looked in the debate, and how lying malignant narcissist Trump WON that debate - because Biden will not retire! I want to scream to MAGA types "Do you know what you're doing? Be an ADULT and vote for policy for crying out loud!"

I want to scream in their faces that what Trump promised, Biden delivered. IRA should be called "The MAGA act" - as that might actually get some Republicans to take a look at the most important bit of industrial legislation in your country in decades! It's simply the boldest move with the most boring name ever!

Anyway - my men's group reminded my idealistic self that America and MAGA types today are not a polite debate with Jeb Bartlett off "West Wing." Noooo - that age has long gone - if it ever existed. This is "The Boys" - and Trump is their Homelander.

To be President IS to have to APPEAR charismatic, quick-witted, strong, bold, handsome (or beautiful if a lady), regal, powerful - a paragon of energy and vitality and everything "American". (Whatever that means today!)

I hate it. I want to believe we can be more adult, and realise we're voting for administrations and policies and an idea of the world - but then I see MAGA types being interviewed on TV - and I shake my head in amazement.

My Aussie Men's group begs the Democratic party to ask President Biden to retire immediately - and appoint Kamala as President. Swear her in. Let her run the country while campaigning.

Then what do you get? First - no more sleepy Joe. It would be one of the most controversial moves in American political history. She would be a SHOCK to the nation. But not boring! And here's another thing.

NOT OLD!

The Republicans have not been playing fair - or even by the spirit of the law (now that the Supreme Court is so stacked and biased against reality.)

But a vital, energetic, sane President verses the insane OLD Orange Man? Now that's got some potential!

Who is OLD now MAGA types? Who is OLD and unfit now Mr Orange Man?

It's not sleepy. Not scared and confused and lost for words.

Kamala would be an amazing foil to Trump. He might not be able to resist saying certain things about her that would make him very unpopular with the ladies!

If MAGA voters are shallow enough to want to play personality politics - fine. We think you should pour out the gasoline on that fire and see what happens!

(Practically it also prevents a voting round or blood letting from intra-party campaigning, etc. It would be very "Westminster" system of you to just GET this candidate thing sorted and take it to the election! Finally - I think I heard she would have access to all Biden's campaign finances? If it were anyone else - wouldn't the party have to refund all donors and start again?)
