I was a student at Georgia Tech and attended the ceremony where President Carter was awarded an honorary degree in 1979 (he'd attended Georgia Tech before transferring to the Naval Academy). I still have the program from the ceremony, and over the years thought that it would be neat to mail the program to him and get it signed. Well, I never got around to it and now it's too late.

He's a very gracious man and a true example of how to conduct oneself. My wife was with a women's group visiting the Carter Center. Jimmy Carter was leaving just as they were arriving, he went out of his way (at the annoyance of his Secret Service detail) to walk over and introduce himself and shake hands with each and every person in that group.
