The problem of course is that political junkies do watch C-Span, but they also likely voted weeks ago. I think that Trump actively knows that he blew it and he's holding up the equivalent of the middle finger (which might explain the mic, actually) to the rest of the world as a great big F-U.

He wants a revolution. Even his followers are now going, "Huh? WTF?!"
