Right now, I cannot feel sorry for those who voted Trump and are now fearful

30. I've been a registered nurse since 1983.

I feel sorry for people who have lung cancer, whether they got it from smoking or from radon in the ground around their home.

I feel sorry for people with half of their face shot off, whether they botched their suicide attempt or whether they were assaulted.

I feel sorry for people paralyzed from the neck down, whether it is because they were driving drunk and had a car wreck, or whether they fell off a scaffold at work.

And when I see someone whose significant other is being deported, or who is homeless because they lost their Social Security, or jobless because the economy was sucked dry by hedge funds and vulture capitalists, I will feel compassion for them.

But there are people whom you can help and people upon whom help is wasted. I can feel empathy for someone's situation even while knowing that there is nothing that I can do for them,except thoughts and prayers, of course.
