The system doesn't correct itself when we don't use it.

If the Founders were here today, none of them would be surprised that a sinister creature, the likes of Trump, would have materialized sometime in 240 years. There is nothing surprising about that.

But they would be horrified at this do-nothing AG and the cowardice of the Republicans in Congress. I think they would be saying, "Seriously? We risked everything: our freedom, our livelihoods, even our lives for this country, and you all just stood by while one man destroyed all of it?"
