(39,116 posts)In Republican states more than half the people are ignorant fuckwits or sociopaths. Our government is structured by the electoral college, the senate, etc., so that the votes of fuckwits and sociopaths give them greater political representation than the rest of us. That was part of the compromise that allowed the U.S.A. to unite against Great Britain.
Donald Trump represents the fuckwits and sociopaths perfectly because he is both a fuckwit and a sociopath.
Strong currents of anti-intellectualism and sociopathy have always swept this nation, before the internet, before television, before radio. Many U.S. Americans worship cruel and capricious gods and celebrate sociopathic billionaires. There have always been political leaders who directly appeal to that constituency.
I post this with the usual disclaimer that my radical environmentalist and social justice warrior self does not represent any platform of the Democratic Party. My voting, and my political activism are always practical, except when I'm raging here on DU.
Most people who voted for Trump are the hapless victims of a con man, soon to be twice burned.
