purple heart recipient. He NEVER talked about the war or his even his 26-year Naval career. He never even spoke of his purple heart; I had no idea until I was well into adulthood.
My grandfather was a true WARRIOR. He had no reason to gloat, it was his honor and duty.

My uncle was captured in the Battle of the Bulge. 5 or 7 months as a POW. Talked of eating cattle beets.

My father was a career Marine officer. He served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He very rarely talked about the wars.
