(6,034 posts)62. What bothered me about it was that Fascists, Nazis, and Communists always referred to their country
as 'the homeland.' (Or, in some cases 'the fatherland.') I mean, obviously the United States IS the homeland. But the use of the term is definitely a faketriot thing. They should have called it something else.
Just as they should never have combined and re-named Border Security and Immigration as "ICE." It's meant to convey a scary, aggressive feeling. Very fascist in word and symbolism.

My uncle was captured in the Battle of the Bulge. 5 or 7 months as a POW. Talked of eating cattle beets.

I hated the term "Homeland security". Americans don't call their country Homeland. Homeland is our ancestors' country

My father was a career Marine officer. He served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He very rarely talked about the wars.
