In reply to the discussion: Who misses going to the stores on Black Friday [View all]woodsprite
(12,262 posts)43. Me! It used to be the first day that my daughter and I would do serious shopping.
As kids in the family have grown up and the adults have retired, they've all dispersed across the US. We went from buying for everyone for years (27 people), as kids grew up and got jobs we moved to drawing names, so now it's down to no Christmas gift exchange. I still get something for them if I see something that they'd really like.
It was always a blast shopping for 13 kids at Toys-R-Us and the sporting goods stores!
Maybe some part of our enjoyment came from getting a late start. We did lunch, mapped out of plan, then hit the stores. We'd get there when a fresh set of clerks/attendants came on duty, and the early morning crowds had dispersed. Usually didn't have a problem finding parking and lines weren't too bad.

Right now there's nothing I need that desperately that I would ruin a perfectly good day to get.

Exactly. There's a 65" 4K TV on sale at my local Shop Rite for less than 400 dollars.

Sure, I long for being trampled to death by a crazed mob of hunter-gatherers
