88. Because so many elected officials are scared of the insurance industry

Insurance companies have a ton of money to spend. They can make or break politicos just like the broligarchs can. That's part of the reason the ACA more closely resembled the Heritage Foundation plan from the 1990s than it did a single-payer plan. Since the advent of Citizens United, that power has only grown.
