A Baltimore native, he graduated as valedictorian from the Gilman School in 2016, later attending the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, Mangione earned both a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering, specialising in computer and information science. Known for his leadership in founding a video game development club, he was celebrated as a tech innovator during his academic years.

However, recent revelations indicate Mangione's life took a dark turn. Law enforcement sources uncovered online activity linking him to anti-capitalist ideologies and writings critical of corporate structures. The manifesto found during his arrest expressed deep resentment towards "corporate parasites" and echoed sentiments attributed to Ted Kaczynski, the infamous "Unabomber," according to the New York Post.
