Who trashed Congress? The Republicans. How does "working together" with the saboteurs help the public? When do the Republicans ever worry about bipartisanship? It is a sucker's game.
Democrats compromise with Republicans to please their donors, not because the public is demanding bipartisanship.
Compromise only works when those other side are negotiating in good faith. The Republicans are not negotiating in good faith, ever. That makes it extortion, not compromise.

I look back to 17-20 and think the Democrats and the media stonewalled Trump pretty effectively.
