the two obvious scenarios were family member of someone w/a horrific denied claim, or a disgruntled former employee. But as I read more about Thompson, I also wondered if the shooter had been hired by someone from the company to limit damage (the insider trader allegations).

I mean that still could be on the table, we really have no idea who Luigi Mangione is. We know the basic family background we've all read, and the story is that his chronic medical issues basically caused him to lose it and go after Thompson - a symptom of what is wrong with healthcare in this country. And that could have happened. There could also be other scenarios. For example, he's young and very bright - like students who are recruited for organizations like the CIA when they're in college (they recruited at Wisconsin when I was there in the 80's - it wasn't a secret - and I'm sure they recruit at the top colleges still). That may be too tinfoil, but in this country who knows. It will be interesting to see the progression with this case.
