He can still do quite a bit of damage on his own, I'm sure, but anyone who saw him on the campaign trail (and who has noticed his absence since then) has been disabused of any illusions about Vance's leadership qualities. Any DUers remember the picture from C-SPAN with the caption "single person clapping" at one of Vance's "rallies"? (It may be a fake, but I heard the clip myself, and the caption is indeed correct).
