... is for the US only, and similar trends might be expected in other developed countries. When women and their families are given CONTROL over their decisions to bear children, every society on Earth can expect a downturn in birth rates, and a resultant boon in QUALITY (as opposed to excessive QUANTITY) of life. World population continues to grow out of control only because so many women and families have NO birth control choices except poverty and starvation. If every country could cut its birth rate the way developed countries have, the population could drop to sustainable levels. It is not there now. The only reason mass starvation is not more widespread is because we are consuming Earth's resources at a furious rate, especially fossil fuels and tropical forests, which will eventually leave us with an overheated Earth where hurricanes, massive flooding, wildfires and waves of insect pests will curtail the population in brutal fashion -- and when we hit the tipping point, it will be sudden and mythically brutal.

Demanding an increase in the birth rate only to outnumber our "enemies" is the strategy almost universally chosen by the most brutal tyrants. Mostly it succeeds in creating more enemies, as other nations realize that the threat of a population clamoring for more land and more resources is that eventually they will just take them from their neighbors -- and "success" breeds unrest at home, as well, as the quality of life declines for no good cause.

The current clamor for higher birth rates from the RW is highly selective -- they want more WHITE births, but fewer brown ones. Only racists favor such a strategy. No exceptions. None.

We can solve this problem the hard way, or we can do it the smart way, but we need smart people in charge for the latter to be a reality.
