(38,591 posts)It's surviving, maybe, & TPTB have successfully convinced most of society that that's doing okay, but I disagree.
Doing okay is being able to save money every paycheck, for emergencies, your child's education & retirement. It's carrying a reasonable debt load & not having to depend on credit for daily/regular expenses like groceries or insurance. It's having enough money in the bank to get you through 3 months without pay. Doing okay is not worrying that an appendectomy will wipe out your $50 saving account & leave you severely in debt, even though you have insurance & pay your premiums on time.
A few years back there was a survey that stated half of Americans couldn't come up with $2K in 30 days without selling something, asking someone for a loan or pulling it off a credit card. Most of us are one disaster from financial ruin. The playing field is skewed more every day & the social safety net is shredded.
The system isn't broken. The system is fixed.
Do I think Bernie Sanders can fix it? No. Even with a democratic Congress I don't think he could fix it. Not only are there too many blue dogs, it's a behemoth. The system. It's corrupt through & through. But I do think Bernie can generate a national debate, get people talking & thinking about why it is that things are generally not better economically, no matter which party is in office. That's why he's so focused on the economic issues & less on the social ones. TPTB use social issues to divide us. Bernie is using economic issues to unite us.
I've said I won't vote for HRC, but if she gets the nom, I suspect I will. I'll fall in line & be a good liberal dem. I'll hold my nose, vote for the Goldman Sachs candidate & I will sit down & shut up. Yes, that's what I'll do. I will not walk my precinct for her. I will not call for her. I will not put an HRC sign in my yard. I will not post about her on FB & tell my friends what a great candidate the dems have. I will never wear a tee shirt with her face & name on it. And I would never, never, ever send her any money. I will vote for her & that is all.
