Clearly they never listened to the lyrics. Or any lyrics. Springsteen is very good at getting to the malaise at the heart of this country, something maybe Trump voters could identify with, if they got past all the flag-waving bullshit. He wrote about their very experiences: that hard work won't necessarily make a damn bit of difference because someone else, somewhere high above, is making decisions about your life, to send you overseas in a bullshit war or to send your jobs far away.
