the House or the Senate needs to start raising money NOW to have any hope of being competitive. I'm sure there are potential candidates out there who think they can bide their time for a year or so, who haven't a clue about the realities of elective politics.

If you are thinking of running for any office whatsoever in 2018, START NOW! Even if it's just for city council, or local school board, or any one of the other seemingly innocuous offices. Get started NOW. Raise money. Figure out how you will campaign. Enlist friends and relatives on your behalf. Do NOT delay.

I'm speaking as one who ran for office in 2004, for the state house of representatives in the state I used to live in. It was an amazing and wonderful experience, and I will probably never run for office again, but boy, did I learn a lot.
