(11,411 posts)Part of it had expelled but part had not. I literally went into shock. They performed emergency D&C. I might have survived with multiple transfusions and intensive care, but why chance it. That definitely qualifies under health of mother. I might not have been able to have my children after that either. I am sure that events like that sometimes happen even when the embryo/fetus is not dead.
Aside from such events, there are women who discover that they have a severe condition early in their pregnancy. For some, the condition will get worse if a pregnancy continues. Many of these conditions cannot be treated during pregnancy. In all of these cases, the health of the mother is at risk and to varying degrees the life of the mother is at risk. In some cases, there is a very high chance of death before birth, even Caesarian at 28 weeks. Even it less extreme cases, this should be a decision that a woman should be able to make after consulting with her doctor. Does he really think that no woman have ever been diagnosed with cancer during a prenatal visit?
