(32,324 posts)As someone who back in the early seventies nearly died from a miscarriage, back in the days when an abortion ban was in effect in Illinois, let me tell you - if doctors cannot perform a D & C to stop bleeding when a woman miscarries, then they can't use a technology that women are entitled to as part of their health care.
And once an abortion ban is in effect, that is what happens - doctors are scared of doing a D & C on a severely hemorrhaging young woman, who is miscarrying, because after the operation, there might be a possibility of seeing evidence that the young woman attempted to self abort. (If it is proven the young woman did attempt to self-abort, then the hospital would lose its license, for letting the doctors operate on her.) So every woman in that situation is at risk - even though life threatening bleed-outs often mean the fetus is no longer viable.
Of course if men could get pregnant, abortion would be viewed as either a sacrament or a patriotic ritual.
