(145,107 posts)and gather from over 2 dozen news sources (yes I have that many tabs just devoted to it plus will go to local or ancillary news sites as needed - e.g., I sub to a bunch of news/commentary magazines). Then I can distill it down (including any press releases, links to sites mentioned in the article or related to it, etc if available and relevant).
Most Municipal/County/State/Federal governmental entities ARE on "social media" because their communities demanded it. So they send out "the latest" that way because it's the fastest way to reach their constituents since the M$M will pick it up right away (if they are monitoring), and can or often will report on it.
"X" and the nightmare of Musk, has caused many of the governmental entities to start working on transitioning to something else but that will take time as it took time for them to develop the current SOPs for publication on their original "Twitter" accounts before it became"X". I noticed that most are moving to "Threads" since it ties into Instagram (that many have) and Facebook (all from same company - Meta - with apps that they also have policies in place for use).
The bottom line is that the M$M is "news gathering" using "social media" nowadays and then reporting on it. It saves them money from actually traveling to a location with a "tape recorder" ( ) and camera (or even an old fashioned notepad) to sort through later.
