It seems fitting that one draft dodger would back another.

And then he makes a movie about Vietnam ("We Were Soldiers" ). LOL

Although, the NYT and its sister pub TBT don't want to label him as such (surprise, surprise).

As explained in Current Biography Yearbook, Gibson, 46, was born in Peekskill, N.Y., the sixth of 11 children. Fearing that his older sons soon would be drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to fight in Vietnam, his father, Hutton Gibson, a brakeman for the New York Central Railroad, decided to immigrate with his wife and children to Australia, the homeland of his mother, Eva Mylott, an opera singer. Mel was 12 at the time.
