12. Until Citizen's United is upended and some semblance of what was originally in

McCain-Feingold for campaign finance reform, is restored, then parties are stuck with the neverending begathons.

IIRC, the "For the People Act" had sections in there to fix what Citizen's United broke.

Oddly enough, before Obama, candidates took the "public financing match" route for campaign money. But Obama felt that he could blow past that with private fundraising and did. Nowadays, candidates for President no longer use that "public financing" option, which only covers a fraction of what is apparently needed now to campaign for President and it restricts the ability to fund-raise beyond the cap.
