'Needs to Resign Or Be Fired': Hakeem Jeffries Urges Trump to Get Rid of Pete Hegseth Immediately [View all]

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) demanded on Thursday that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth either resign or be fired by President Donald Trump. At a Thursday press conference, Jeffries echoed calls by him and other Democrats for Hegseth to step aside after a journalist was accidentally looped into a Signal group chat where Hegseth and other administration officials were discussing a then-upcoming strike in Yemen against the Houthis.
The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg dropped messages from the call this week, while White House officials, including Hegseth, continue to dismiss the controversy and insist no classified information was given despite timing and details of the attack being discussed in the chat.
“We’re in the middle of a fight right now, as it relates to Pete Hegseth. He needs to resign or be fired by Donald Trump. We’ve made that clear across the caucus,” Jeffries told reporters on Thursday. The Democratic leader praised lawmakers in his party over Senate and House hearings where CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard were grilled over the attack leaks out of the White House.
“Democrats, I think, showed fight in the Senate hearing,” Jeffries said. “Tuesday and in the House hearing on Wednesday, our veterans have stood up to push back against this stunning national security breach. That’s a fight that we’re in right now. Are we on the sidelines? Have we been silent about this scandal?”
