It's a civic duty, but it's also a job. Calling it something else is one of the ways they can get away with not paying jurors a decent wage for doing that job. I said that in my original post. I guess you missed it.

I don't have guts like that. I have to go in Feb. to downtown L.A. 20 miles from home.

Just go. It is your civic duty. You'll probably won't get picked anyway because the odds aren't very good.
