If you want to try it, you can buy turkey feathers to paint on. Take a board, tape the feather down on the board, gently and thoroughly cover it with say, matte medium. Let it dry, and then start painting! Seal it with waterproof sealant, or whatever works for you. I've painted pet portraits, horses, accidentally a horse portrait, as I'd just painted a white horse, and a friend's white horse had just died unbeknownst to me. So, she was so happy when presented with the feather as a gift of remembrance.
