I have been self taught knitting and crochet from the age of 14, But I have learned most of what I know from the people at Ravelry.com. Such a grand bunch of people. Perhaps you might work with a less difficult yarn until you are more comfortable with the craft. Don't listen to me, I did the same thing with my choice of yarn at first, it will all work out and if you use a different yarn no one gets to comment on your addition to "stash". It's all a learning experience and an investment your quality of life.
