"The Valley"

Oh my misty eyes I barely lost the fight, I walked alone down the dusty road, I think I saw the light, I'm coming home, home to my sweet love down in the valley.

Long, long, I've been gone gone, I went off to win the war but just what for well I cannot say, now blood is all I've got, it's on my mind, on my face, as I sweep down through the valley.

How my love oh I have cried, I've dreamt you in the night, a million times, you were so close I could kiss your ghost, my tears have dried, you'll be alright, I'm whispering on the wind that sweeps the valley.

Lord, lord kiss me now, set me free I'm coming down, I've done some things of which I'm not proud, I've taken life, I've snuffed it out and had it done to me, I've been set free, my mother's son is coming home.........

Chorus- I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming
I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home
I've been set free, I've been released.

A little story behind the song. I wrote it about a soldier who comes home from the war in a box. In my mind he was raised in a pretty valley in Tennessee or Kentucky and had a pretty girl there. He find's himself dying in a valley in Asia/The Middle East and thoughtfully reflecting on what he did. The valley is metaphorically both places and as I wrote this song I felt that it reminded me a bit of Simon and Garfunkel and the Vietnam War even.

Cheers for the request for the lyric's. Chris

Here's link to my Myspace page with an acoustic version of "The Valley". http://www.myspace.com/tonedeafradio/music/songs?filter=featured It's at #10 on the playlist so it doesn't show right up. I also have another antiwar song there that called "Here's To War" which I wrote on the first day of the Iraq war back in 2003 when David Bloom, the MSNBC reporter, died during the initial invasion. For some reason when I heard he died the song came to me all at once. I wrote it in an hour on that day. The lyrics are tongue in cheek paradoxical but pretty interesting.
