Many 16 oz framing hammers with ripping claws have fiberglas handles. That one is clearly wooden. The black background shows off the polished, hardened steel head and the warm wood.
The bloom is on some kind of plant my wife has lugged in and out of the house, according to season, for years. It's not a cactus but may be related. Most of the time it's just a scraggly looking thing with scattered leaves as seen in that photo. Until it bloomed, I thought she was nuts to hang on to it, much less carry it inside and out and make room for it.
Oh, I wouldn't fear your use of the hammer. She probably wouldn't use it on me, either, I was just using a bit of hyperbole to emphasize that messing with her plants is just completely unacceptable.
