Georgia State agrees to buy Turner Field [View all]

Georgia State University has agreed to purchase Turner Field, the stadium the Atlanta Braves are vacating after the current baseball season.

Georgia State plans to convert the venue into a football stadium. Turner Field was initially built for the 1996 Olympics and has been home to the Braves for the past 20 seasons.

The Braves announced in November 2013 that they were leaving downtown Atlanta for a suburban ballpark that opens next season. Georgia State unveiled its plan for the site six months later and was the winning bidder for the property last December.
