The 14 days was plenty of time to determine if there was enough to warrant negotiating a settlement.

This would be about the only way to get out of the guaranteed money on Ferenz contract.

The university knows full well that there is enough there to warrant a law suit. They could have offered a settlement...both of the coaches get to resign. Kirk can keep 25% of his remaining contract value. The rest goes to the victims. Nothing for the son or the AD. That would have been more than half what the plaintiffs were asking for.

The university is counting on the cult of Hawkeye past to get a more lenient civil jury.
